How to Care for Raw Hair Extensions (The Right Way)
You invested in premium raw hair — now let's make sure it lasts. With the right care routine, your Too Raw Hair extensions can look and feel incredible for years. Here's everything you need to know.
Step 1: The First Wash Is Everything
Before your first install, give your raw hair a proper reset wash. This removes any buildup from packaging and prepares the hair for bonding with your natural hair.
- Use a detoxifying or clarifying shampoo to strip any residue
- Follow immediately with a deep conditioning mask
- Rinse with cold water — this seals the cuticle and locks in moisture
This first wash sets the foundation for how your hair will behave throughout its life. Don't skip it.
Step 2: Ongoing Wash Routine
After the initial wash, switch to a gentler routine for regular maintenance.
- Wash with a sulfate-free shampoo — sulfates strip natural oils and can dry out raw hair
- Always follow with a moisturizing conditioner or deep conditioning treatment
- Wash in a downward motion to avoid tangling the cuticles
- Rinse thoroughly with cool or cold water
Step 3: Moisturize Regularly
Raw hair doesn't receive natural oils from your scalp the way your own hair does, so moisture is key.
- Apply a leave-in conditioner after every wash
- Use a lightweight hair oil (argan, jojoba, or coconut) on the ends to prevent dryness
- Deep condition at least once every 2 weeks
Step 4: Heat Styling
Raw hair is heat-friendly, but always protect it first.
- Apply a heat protectant spray before using any hot tools
- Keep flat irons and curling wands at 350–400°F for best results
- Avoid excessive heat on the same sections repeatedly
Step 5: Nighttime Care
How you sleep in your hair matters just as much as how you style it.
- Braid or loosely twist your hair before bed to prevent tangling
- Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase — or wrap your hair in a silk scarf
- Store loose hair in a silk bag when not in use
Step 6: Detangling
- Always detangle from the ends up to the roots — never root to tip
- Use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers on wet, conditioned hair
- Never detangle dry hair — always add moisture or detangling spray first
How Long Will Raw Hair Last?
With proper care, Too Raw Hair extensions can last 2–5 years or longer. The key is consistency — treat your raw hair like you'd treat your own natural hair and it will reward you.
